CV tips

We noticed an interesting article in this week's Metro (Wednesday 25th January) stated that interviews will be decided after potential employers read "two thirds of your CV's first page".  This is definitely something to bear in mind when beginning to compile your CV, and some helpful tips Metro mention to get yourself noticed are:

  • Begin with your strong personality aspects
  • Mention what you are good at and what you've done well
  • Sound fresh and full of evidence of applied learning and achievements
  • Don't include too many clichés
  • Outline past experience, skills and knowledge
  • Make it clear the kind of role you'd like in the future
  • Tailor your CV to the role you're applying for
  • Use a simple layout and don't over-complicate

John Lees, the author of The Interview Expert, goes on to say that you should lead each bullet point with an active verb such as 'led' or 'organised' to show off your key skills and strengths, which is also great advice.

We have so many great roles at the moment, so it's crucial your CV stands out from the crowd, and the best CVs always lead to the best jobs!!
